莎士比亞的名句“世界是舞臺”就是暗喻metaphor。

如果說世界好像舞臺，那就是明喻simile了。

metaphor：以此物隱喻彼物，將某一事物以另一個與其相似的事物來表達，是一種含蓄的比喻，暗示有比較，但又不充分說出這種比較。如：the key to the mystery（即解開奧秘的方法就像開門的鑰匙一樣）；the light of knowledge（知識之光）；to have a stone face（表情呆板）等。隱喻不用比喻詞，但可以用be動詞或者只用逗號、破折號將本體和喻體連起來。例如：

this gives the muscles of your lens and it is a chance to shift position， a sort of “get up and stretch” period。 （句中“get up and stretch”是暗喻，用人起身伸懶腰比喻肌肉放鬆，沒有用比喻詞。）
