jar，jug，pot，tank都是“罐”，區別：含義不同、用法不同、側重點不同。

一、含義不同

1、jar

n。 廣口瓶；罈子；刺耳聲；震動，vi。 發刺耳聲；不協調；震盪；衝突，vt。 擾亂；震動。

2、jug

n。 水壺；罐；<俚>監牢，vt。 罐燜；<俚>把……關進監獄。

3、pot

n。 壺；一大筆（錢）；獎盃（尤指銀盃）；<俚>大麻，v。 把 。。。 裝罐；射獵；（檯球）入袋。/

4、tank

n。 箱；槽；貯水池；坦克，vt。 把 。。。 儲於槽中。

二、用法不同

1、jar

jar的基本意思是指發出一種刺耳的聲音使人感到不快，用作不及物動詞，常與against連用。

jar也可作“震動”“搖動”解，用作及物動詞，接名詞或代詞作賓語，可用於被動結構。

I can‘t get the lid off this jar。

我打不開這廣口瓶的蓋子。

The jar contains ten glasses of water。

這隻大口瓶能裝十杯水。

2、jug

作名詞時有一罐的容量，一壺的容量等意思。

She filled the jug with fresh water。

她將水壺注滿了清水。

I managed to grab hold of the jug before it fell。

我設法抓住了那個罐子才未跌落。

3、pot

pot的意思是“罐，鍋，壺”，指一種盛水或盛固體的容器，可由陶瓷製成，也可由金屬製成，是可數名詞。

Will you help me to wash up all these pots and pans？

幫我洗洗這些鍋碗瓢盆好嗎？

She stayed up all night writing the paper with a pot of coffee at her elbow。

她熬了一整夜寫論文，身邊放著一壺咖啡。

4、tank

直接源自葡萄牙語的tanque，意為罐。

Is there any water left in the water tank？

水箱裡還有水剩下嗎？

The gas is stored under pressure in the tank。

該氣體在壓縮狀態下貯存於罐中。

三、側重點不同

1、jar

是一種（用於存放食物的） 玻璃罐。

2、jug

是一種用於盛放液體的帶手柄的容器。

3、pot

指一種盛水或盛固體的容器，可由陶瓷製成，也可由金屬製成。

4、tank
