逆向第一個逗號讀thousand；向左再推三位，第二個逗號讀million；第三個逗號讀billion；第四個逗號就是trillion。

這幾個逗號的作用在於，當我們聽到若干thousand時，立即寫下這個數，並在其後打一個逗號，並留出3位；當聽到若干million，則寫下數字，並在其後打一逗號，留出6位；聽到若干billion，方法同上，在後面留出9位，後面的million、thousand依此法類推，讓所有數字各就其位。

簡單來說就是百位數和後面的數之間（十位數，或者個位數（十位數為零時））應該加and。

如無百位則千位和十位數之間加and，如：

另外，4位和4位以上的數字，是從後向前數，三位三位地讀，依次為thousand， million， billion，如：
