我也是這句話看不懂過來搜答案 然後看了上面的回答突然頓悟了。

首先，ten是十的意思 這句話這樣看，tens of thousands of years。於是thousands of years由千年變成了乘以十的萬年。

hundreds後面接的是hundreds of thousands of years。意為幾十萬年，這個能懂？

句子就應該是這樣we have an excellent chance of surviving for tens of thousansands of years。我們有絕佳的條件可以活上萬年。if not hundreds of thousands of years。即使不是活上幾十萬年。但是由於要插入if的條件句進去，後面就省略了放進去了，總結完畢

［3］ 主語從句：that we（主）have（謂）an excellent chance（賓）of surviving for tens。。。of thousands of years（定）；理解為：我們很有可能堅持存活幾萬年

［4］ 狀語（從句）；if （we do） not （have chance of surviving for） hundreds （of thousands of years）； 理解為：即便我們活不了幾十萬年

thousands of是虛指成千上萬 這裡理解成幾萬年

if not hundred看起來是幾百 這裡其實是百倍於後者的意思 如果不能活個幾百萬年 再活個幾萬年也是可以的

if not hundreds 這屬於插入語吧？翻譯的時候提前，如果不能生存（活）數萬年，（至少）可以活數百年？
